I just saw this on the R/F forum and I know some people here have been asking about Scratch the beggar. This was posted on his MySpace account:

Dear Friends:

After 20 years of performing at renaissance festivals, and 10 years of hitting myself in the head with cookware of varying weights and forgiveness ratios, I have decided to devote the bulk of my energies towards a different, albeit highly creative, pursuit. I am very excited about this next chapter, despite knowing how much I will miss many of my friends and co-conspirators.

But....

I WILL be appearing at TRF for the final weekend. That's right, one last bang session before I go defiantly into that good night. Look for me outside the bathrooms near the Sea Devil Stage....that spot was good to me in the past. Also, I would like to announce that I will be offering a special deal: For 5 Dollars, I will hump a tree. That's right, I said hump a tree! If you think you can find a better deal someplace else, then go!

I may appear here and there at other festivals, as a guest or in spot appearances. And I still plan on doing Minnesota in some capacity. But it looks like the days of full-time fairing are drawing to a close. So, thanks to everybody, and I'll see you down the road.

I will miss Scratch. His sense of comedy and timing are fantastic. He will be sorely missed.

I read this post with a deep sigh, we always enjoyed throwing quarters and dollars at him . . .

Yes, Scratch will be missed. At least those who attend TRF the final weekend will get to see him.

I have never gotten to see him. I guess I had better catch his performance the last weekend.

He was definetly a act not to miss, and had the ability to attract and entertain all age groups, no matter how young or old, sad indeed!

I think last year was his last....you may have already missed him!!

Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and he'll pop in this year....

I think you're right. I didn't see him at Scarby any this year. Sure did miss him and his pans and anything else he could think of.:(
