And for the time being, your blog is your blog! Say what you will, do as you please. But there is always a catch:
1) NO SPAM
2) NO PORN
3) WE CAN CHANGE THE RULES AT ANY TIME
But if you just want to vent because you had a bad day at work, well have at it!

Rapier,
Thanks for asking, but it has been a rough ride the last 30 hrs or so. Wednesday was scary with 90-100 mph winds. My home and family are ok with minimal damage to mainly landscaping. The town is upside down though with major flooding in some areas.
60% of the power has been restored and most businesses still remain closed. We were expecting a tropical storm, and we got a Cat 2 hurricane. It's good we prepare for the worse. We were fortunate to avoid the eye wall or the "red area on the radar" as it entered the Valley just north of us. This concentration had winds of an excess of 100 mph.
Thanks again for asking Rapier. I appreciate your concern and regards.

Bert - I'm glad the worst part of the storm didn't hit you. Hurricane Rita socked us pretty hard a few years ago and our power was out for over a month. Some power crews from southeast Texas were headed your way yesterday so hopefully you will have power restored all over town shortly. My best to you and your family.

Thanks Angie. We're all a bit shaken up, but we're OK. Now it's time to repair and clean up. The whole town is in disarray for the time being. We've just have to now get up and brush ourselves off.

I remember the devastation that Rita caused the many people of southeast Texas. We are fortunate when I think of what Rita and Katrina did to the many people of the Gulf Coast. We're shaken up, but we're ok. We live to fight another day.

Many thanks m' Lady. The town is looking a bit better, and the stores are beginning to open up again. I guess a lot of disposing of food from the restaurants and convenient/grocery stores due to the power outages have taken place. Restocking is now in progress.
Thanks again.

I was glad to hear that you and your family survived Dolly's wrath.
You should tell everyone of your battle with the tree.
Norberto
07-25-2008, 01:35 PM
Thanks Nuny.
Ah yes, the tree. Well, long story short. In the midst and strongest point of the storm, I heard something growling from the roof area. Sounded awkward from inside the house. I put two and two together to find out that the mesquite tree, that under normal conditions would not rub up against the roof, was actually grinding down against my roof over the master bedroom area.
I grabbed my pole saw like a Spartan warrior (I wish), and proceeded to the backyard to cut this large limb that was approximately 14 ft high. Sideways rain from different directions felt like needles against my skin and face. Common sense told me not to stand directly under the cutting area, but I guess in 100 mph winds, it doesn't really matter which 45 degree angle side you decide to stand on. Well, the main limb fell right in front of me, but I got all the smaller branches and brush on top of me. Now, I am holding a pole saw encased in small mesquite branches and brush. It was actually funnier than it was painful. I look back now and realize that it could of been worse.
Sometimes you have to take a risk in order to save what is dear to you. Also, keep in mind, odds are I wouldn't have even thought about it if it was anything over a Category 3 persay. I measured myself against the beast on my patio outside first to see if I held a chance.
That's my hurricane story. Hello Dolly!!

Speaking of which,
If you had purchased $1,000 worth of Delta Airlines stock one year ago, you would have $49.00 today.
If you had purchased $1,000 worth of AIG stock one year ago, you would have $33.00 today.
If you had purchased $1,000 worth of Lehman Brothers stock one year ago, you would have $0.00 today.
But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drunk all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for a recycling refund, you would have received $214.00!
Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg Plan.
A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!
I'm only getting about 9 miles to the gallon, but I am still proud!

Oh by the way, FYI.
A woman is a lot like beer. They smell good, they look good, and you'd step over your own mother to get one. -Homer Simpson
We must credit women for their part in beer's development. Most likely, it was women who discovered beer. Furthermore, though most men claim this role today, beer brewers were mostly women up until the late medieval period.
And that's one to grow on.
