I've been having some fun with Google Earth lately. I thought there might be a few here that haven't seen a satellite view of the TRF grounds.
Here's the grounds and parking lot as they're actually situated on the planet.

On this one, I decided to turn the image around so that the view would be more like you'd see it as you were walking in from the parking lot.

Cool Nuny!! Great pics!!
I noticed these are from Jan '06. I'm curious to see how much it has changed. Probably not much from an aerial view though.

Yeah, I wish I had access to more current views. It would also be cool to have satellite photos from years past to be able to show the progression.

Your welcome, Angie. I'm ready to be there right now myself.

Your're very welcome, Lady Lesley. I can also post closer views of specific areas if anyone wants to have a better look.

I saw on the R/F forum where there has been some new construction this year near the garden area (Titania's Bower from what I got of the description). I'll have to locate the thread to get more specifics. I think they also mentioned there is a new shoppe to the southwest of the jousting arena next to Olde World Kettle Corn. Cool shots, Nuny.

Cool... hopefully it's a pub!! Calm down Nuny...
Did they mention what kind of shoppe? Hopefully, it's Ferret Outfitters, Nuny needs one.

Yeah, I think I read something about that on R/F as well. Wasn't it in a thread about a couple getting married on the TRF grounds recently? (I didn't know you could do that by the way.)

Oh yeah Nuny. They have been doing it for years. North of the gardens exists a beautiful pergola type chapel covered in vines where many people get hitched. Why?? I have no idea.....

Yeah, I knew that couples could get married during the regular TRF season, but I believe this couple got married during the off-season. (maybe just a couple of months ago?)

I did not realize that the Renaissance Festival covered so much area. Why are the trees in rows?

I was pretty amazed myself. The areas where the trees are in rows are for parking.

I think they have weddings in a few different areas at TRF. I saw at least one in Titania's Bower last season. The foliage allows for some privacy even in the midst of all the crowds at TRF, and they had security wenches at the doorways. ;)

Oh yes, you are talking about Capt. Fletcher. He's a veteran TRF performer and I saw other cast in his wedding pictures. He and his bride got married on the Odeon stage. I'm not sure about off-season weddings, but it might be something they allow for performers.

Be sure to walk up and say hello if you run into him at TRF. He's a really nice gent and I believe his title is Captain of the Royal (or King's) Guard. He also fights in the show at Valentine's Armory.

Sir Martin the Mighty Dragonslayer,
I have only been attending for the last 10 yrs. or so, and I have seen the festival grow in many ways. Especially the jousting arena, and the new enchanted garden paths. How have you seen the Fest grow throughout the years?

Oh yegads ... there are so many things. The King's Feast moving to the new Feast Hall, the Player's Podium being torn down and replaced by The Odeon, the multitudes of great performers who have passed through the gates, the Mud Show getting its own stage, the ousting of the SCA (with subsequent replacement of The Battle Mound with The Roman Basilica), the gardens being expanded, building of The Cloister Stage, the exit of Last Chance Forever (but replaced with another fine falconry show), Real Musgrave leaving for Scarby, Ded Bob going from a first year curiosity to one of the largest crowd pleasers, the transformation of The Agora, the addition of the wonderful fireworks show, the addition of the TRF Cams, garb, wagon and wheelchair rentals, a significant increase in pirate themed activity .... and that's just a few of the things that come to mind ... ;)

About phone calls from school...been there, done that with my 8 year old. I hate to say but sometimes schools have no clue what to do with smart kids.

That doesn't surprise me. She may well be a savant, Lady Leslie, and I mean that in the best sense of the expression. A lovely and smart young lady ... I hope to meet you both in the next few months. :)

[In my opinion] that's because the purpose behind public education is to dumb the kids down. You can't control an intelligent and informed society. Unfortunitly, from my experience with the public at large, the schools are winning and humanity is losing.

Nicely said, Rapier, I will add, the one thing I wish schools would not teach is conformity . .

Conformity is part and parcel of the collectivist mentality.
