NO, I won't be there this weekend!!! I will be at a motorcycle rally. They messed up all the weekends so my dates were off when I was planning so... I am off by a week this year:mad: That is why I will be at faire on Halloween instead of Pirate weekend. BWT, why did they make the weekends like that?

From what I understand, the move was due to the inclusion of Thanksgiving Weekend and the Friday after. Instead of adding a week to TRF, they shifted everything by one week. If last year is any indication, it should be a blast!!

True, did have a great time last year but... what I meant was - why is Halloween the weekend BEFORE Halloween & pirate weekend the weekend of Halloween? They really messed me up this year. I NEVER go to faire on Halloween weekend - I don't like it.

I know plenty of people love that weekend. I'm good with it ,it takes all kinds. That weekend just is not for me, but it just so happens that that weekend is also my birthday weekend so... I will be at faire. Maybe this year will change the way I feel about Halloween weekend?

Aw, c'mon Matt. I've seen the construction on the cams for a few days now.
Is it a bar? A chicken coop? Kissing booth?

i can agree that there is a time and place for all things, and at a RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL, might not be the correct place for such costumes, DEFINETELY not the right time era!:D

exactly.... use those costumes for actual halloween in your neighborhood.... we have on our home videos the first and last time we went to all hallows eve in 1998, we caught batman going to into the bathroom on the camera.

For those of us who have been doing this for a number of years, the justifications for the costumes is almost as funny as the costumes. After all, WE can travel from Dallas to Plantersville fully garbed and very few people take much notice; they know, usually, where we are going. But do you really find a logical explanation for a Vulcan if there's not a Star Trek convention near by? And of course, that's the other excuse - the holideck, time travel, and on and on.

Don't forget the gorilla! It must have escaped from the Houston Zoo.

Some people are just looking for an excuse to wear costumes. About 5 years ago I just stopped asking. I usually like to pretend those patrons aren't there. Unless they are spending lots of money, then they are there, there just very oddly dressed. Especially the group of cardboard robots. It's sometimes more fun giving them an explanation for how they are dressed. For example:
Storm Trooper = apprentice armorer made the suit and must have been struck with a fever to make it so unprotective.
Star Trek people = madmen, plain and simple. They have lost their wits. They found a mad seamstress to make odd clothes. They must have threatened the poor woman.
Cardboard robots = children who ran off with their mother's cookware.
I can keep going but I think you get the point. :D

OK I have to agree, not necessarily for the time period, just more of on a sense of redundancy. There are just too many. Pick another pirate people.

Ok, so what are they building outside of Indulgences. Let me guess,.... It's made of wood, very heavy, and will be inside the shop?

It was a project whose idea began last season that has finally come to fruition. If you would like to know, please come by and let me know and I will be glad to show them to you. As Nancy mentioned they are for true patrons of the Indulgences and Honey Lodge establishment. I only have three left though.

Ok, I'm going to defend this one well... because I hang out with Cap't Jack & he is a great guy. His costume is for the kids. Have you ever watched him? He gives out all kinds of "booty" to these kids as well as the hundreds of pics he takes. I understand that there are too many of them but... My next question is - Where there no pirates in the Rennaisance?

There were absolutely pirates in the Renaissance. In fact, there are still pirates today. Not as many, but every once in awhile you will hear about a cruise or cargo ship being attacked by several men in a boat. They are still amongst us.

Yeah, but the ones today aren't nearly as cool as they were in the past. Or at least as cool as we make the ones in the past appear to be.

Yes, I got to see them. Really cool (no pun intended) if you have the need for such. I think most are used by people who can attend every weekend (and I think at least one is assigned to another vendor). I didn't ask if they are rented by the day or for the entire season (perhaps either is an option).

I'm not sure, but I know some of them are provided for some special and regular patrons. They take care of their customers. Really nice indeed.
This wouldn't work for me either as I am up and down the Fest like a banshee in heat. Wanna be everywhere at once, I guess.

Dicksie, I agree. I was rather timid with the posting at first but now I'm hooked. These forums have some really great folks and you are one of them. Of course, we all share common passions, a love of Renfairs a love for MIL and a love for our fellow Rennies. It was great to go to the MIL dinner. Actually I received an invite from John, the Cooper. I'm just a patron... somewhat a rather good customer of Indulgences and Honey Lodge. Never realized so many people work for MIL. Although, Paul G said actually the workforce was reduced from previous years.
Hi everyone from MIL Great to meet all of you! Please say hi when you see me next year. BTW, I really didn't eat much at dinner (just happy to meet everyone), since the dinner was for employees of MIL and Paul G probably paid the bill. Thanks Paul I don't mind spending money, if it goes to MIL family I would like to go to the MIL dinner next year, of course I will ask Paul first.
