Any news on the release date of the new tankards and who the artist will be?

Greetings and salutations, Lady Rochelle. We are glad you have joined us.

The 2007 official TRF tankard designs were announced to the public on 8/2/07. The 2008 version was revealed to us on 7/8/08. Hopefully we will get a preview of the 35th anniversary tankard in the next couple months.

The last I heard, Dakota (the artist who designed the '07 and '08 tankards) would be designing this year's also. Have you been collecting for some time now? What are your favorite year's designs?

Welcome to the forums Lady Rochelle!! I hope you enjoy yourself here.

Like Martin, the last I heard is that Dakota is designing this years tankard. When I spoke with her last year at TRF, she seemed very excited about it.

She's one very talented lady and I can't wait to see what she comes up with myself.:)

I can't wait either. I bought my 1st stein from Dakota last year and now I'm hooked. Although I do have 2 1989 pewter goblets from TRF, they just don't have the character of the steins.

Can you post a photo of the pewter (if you haven't already)? We have several people here who collect the tankards, but curiously, very rarely hear from anyone who has the pewter.

I think one of the Nancy's said they knew someone with an extensive collection and would try to get some photos to share with us. I'd love to see them and, of course, they would be a perfect thing to display on the MIL site! ;) :D

Sir Martin,

Here's some crappy shots of them I took a long time ago. They are at Lady Rae's house right now but when I go down to Austin tomorrow to see her, I'll try and take some better ones.

Asterix - I like the scroll work on those and the gryphon looks cool too. They look like they are very sturdy also.

No I have not been collecting , but admiring for many years, I would always say, ok I will get one on th eway out and then would forget, I was in line last year opening weekend upon enterring the gates and had them hold it for me, had I known back when that was an option , I have to buy a new home to house them :), but thank you for letting me know, I took Dakota up on the autograph last year by asking her of the story behind the design and was privy to a grand story, looking forward to it this year and thanks for showiing the pewter , might as well start collecting that as well.

Hello,
It's been awhile since I was last here but I had hoped to see some news about the 2009 edition. I am presently out-of-state and have to order new tankards as soon as they're released so as not to miss adding to my extensive collection. :D (The last several years I've only been able to make it to the faire on the last weekend.) I always get anxious as the start of the faire draws near, thinking that maybe this year my mug order form had gotten lost in the mail.

Any news yet, about the new tankards and when the order letters go out?

MIL will have a hiring weekend this weekend. I will see about getting the tankard and pewter posted but can't promise anything yet.

Hey Buccaneer - I'm not sure from your message if you are a pewter or ceramic tankard collector, but I just found out that the MIL info letter for pewter collectibles was put in the mail this past Wednesday. If you need help with acquiring ceramic tankards or other MIL items, call (936) 894-2552 or email Paul at pgroos@dragonsquest.com.

Thanks for the reply, Sir Martin
I am a ceramic tankard collector, with a fairly complete lidded collection, plus the early aluminum tankards. Only need a '79 horn-shaped and a '88 Blue Dragon Tooth (which I plan to remendy in the next few days. :D ). My wife collects the pewter but not consistantly. Other then that, just looking for the odds and sods, 'lil shot glasses of the big mugs and some half cups.

Just got the order letter from the mailbox a few minutes ago; they appoligize for a price increase but I don't see it as being that much. But there does seem to be a mystery as to what the things look like this year. There was no brouchure with pictures of the pewter or ceramic cups.

I'm sure Paul and them are just busy gearing up for the Faire and havn't gotten to everything yet, but it just seems a little mysterious that there aren't any pictures on the Forum or in the mail letter.

I'll be there on the last (and only) Friday, hope to be able to say Hi to some folks from on here!

Cool. You are amongst others here who love the beauty and unique designs of the official TRF tankards. Do you have a photo of your collection that you can post here? Several of us posted pictures of ours a while back and it is interesting to see the arrangement and what type of cabinet/display everyone uses. Some also incorporate other collections with their TRF items.
